Congratulations to the Grand Heritage Foundation on the ribbon cutting for the newly renovated Grand Community Center!
July 23rd, 2026 was a day cumulating hundreds of hours of work, planning, and fundraising for the board of the Grand Heritage Foundation. A grand opening celebration included a ribbon cutting, food, music, kids activities and showcased the newly renovated Grand Community Center.
What began as the Boxholm Consolidated School has been remodeled and preserved as The Grand Community Center. The vacant school continued to deteriorate and was said to be headed for the wrecking ball so local volunteers sprang into action with a vision for the space. Soon after, the Grand Heritage Foundation was formed, and possession of the building was granted on September 28, 2023.
Since then, the Community Center board and volunteers have been hard at work striving to make this space a place for the community to enjoy. Renovations have been completed, grants have been secured, and the vision of a Community Center is one of positive momentum. They started with new landscaping to make the front more welcoming, new backboards in the gym, a new play set from the Boxholm community, and some of the roof has been redone.
“It takes a group effort to make things like this happen in small communities. What a tremendous space for Boxholm and the surrounding communities,” noted Marcie Boerner, CEO of Webster-Calhoun Cooperative Telephone Association, during the event.
The building is intended to be a welcoming place to move, learn, gather, and grow with recreation, workshops, and social connection. The gymnasium and meeting rooms are available for rent and memberships are available for recreation and fitness.
